October 10th 2019, I had the opportunity to participate in Psychology Mental Health Day at Carleton University, hosted by the Psychology Department and the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA). The goal of the conference was to educate the public about services on campus, and raise awareness about well-being and mental health. I was able to catch talks about the latest research on: addiction, diabetes/depression, mental health services on campus, and anxiety. The keynote address was by Dr. Michel Dugas from the University of Quebec Outaouais. The address focused on how to treat general anxiety by exposing the individual to the fear of the unknown. What a way to begin my journey at Carleton University! It makes me feel like I belong at this research-focused university.
